Anyways, people misusing the word “random” is one of my pet peeves. We’ve re-appropriated a lot of words in English to mean things they didn’t originally mean, and “random,” I feel, is getting abused on this front. People use it to mean basically whatever they want. And I’ve had enough.
Note: This is the shortest song ever put on Music About Nothing, running at just 1:49.
What I’ve Been Listening to
5Firstly, please come to my show on Saturday. It’s gonna be really fun, so please come watch me sing and play and stuff.
OK, so, now to the point of this, my first blog entry. I listen to a lot of music. And by “a lot,” I’m talking less about quantity and more about frequency. The amount of different music I listen to is actually not a lot. My thing is that once I get new music (or visit Grooveshark, I suppose), I tend to listen to that new thing about seventy-million times in a row. I like to listen really closely to music I like and figure out why it is that I like it.
Call me crazy, or obsessive, or whatever, but that’s just what I do. I like to call it “research.” So if you pass me walking to class and I have my headphones in, just think to yourself, “It’s okay he didn’t wave. He’s doing research.” (Also, if I do wave, please respond with “Good morning, Professor.”)
Anyways, here’s ten albums I’ve been listening to recently:
1. Rubber Soul, The Beatles
2. The Bends, Radiohead
3. Flamingo, Brandon Flowers
4. Contra, Vampire Weekend
5. Broken Bells, Broken Bells
6. Death to False Metal, Weezer
7. The Suburbs, Arcade Fire
8. Eye to the Telescope, KT Tunstall
9. The Else, They Might Be Giants
10. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Anyways, what have you been listening to?
