This part of the story was inevitable. Surely this had to happen to Chad. But it does change things up for him quite a bit. Only three more songs and this whole thing will be resolved!
Here’s the next part:
| But it didn’t last. Before Chad realized what she was doing, Sarah had already bitten him. The bite returned Chad to his senses, and he realized exactly what was going on. The last thing he thought before he hit the ground and lost consciousness was, “Killed while trying to escape.”
“That wasn’t so bad,” he thought, as he came to. The sounds around him were the same as they had been when he fell, and Sarah was still standing over him, so he felt sure that he hadn’t been out too long. He didn’t feel very different. But there was an emptiness in him that told him one thing for certain–he was dead. He stared at the ground for a moment, sad and frustrated that his life was now over. Three and a half years of college and he’d never get to graduate. He knew it had been a waste of time. But then he looked up at Sarah, who had tears in her eyes. She helped him up, and hugged him, this time for real. She whispered, “I’m sorry,” into his ear, but it didn’t matter. Chad understood. It would be much easier for her if he was a zombie, too. He couldn’t blame her. He took Sarah’s hand and they walked out of the police station. |

And here’s why it’s so Emo. This is what happened to Chad:
| It was Sarah. Chad was filled with so many emotions that he couldn’t tell which ones they were. Anger? Sadness? Frustration? Hunger? As confused as Chad was about his feelings, he knew that one of those feelings in there was still love. Love for Sarah, who he hadn’t seen since the announcement made by Mr. Zombie President, and then only briefly. But why was she there? Did she come to save him? Or to make sure he didn’t get away? Chad didn’t know.
To his surprise, Sarah reached out and unlocked his handcuffs. How had she known he’d have handcuffs? Once his cuffs were off, and again to Chad’s great surprise, she held out her arms, as if waiting for Chad to embrace her. Had Chad not been so confused by his current state of emotions, he probably would’ve figured out what she was doing and bolted. But alas, he reached out and hugged her. The moment was…touching, perhaps, if you disregard the fact that she was the walking dead. |
